Well I had an impulse buy in sainsburys....and I picked for some reason WWE 12, having played a few of the previous games I decided it could have been a worse pick and it had been mentioned for being better than the previous ones.

On face value it is an improvement the characters look better, the storyline for Road To Wrestlemania is better, the rosters are better and finally commentators that actually appear to be not just an after thought.

Road To Wrestlemania starts picking one of 3 stories which includes Sheamus, Triple H and another character and this time it involves lots of twists and turns that really surprised me. The one thing that annoyed me was the continued cutscenes towards the end of a match, I think 5-6 matches in a row ended in disqualification because of people running down to the ring.

It got very old very quickly and really spoilt my time on the game however I will say for the majority the game plays and looks like you would expect it to on the TV even down to the WWE HD logo's and ring entrances.

With a Roster than includes over 60 superstars seems to be the biggest roster going and that will bring a lot of people to it, I haven't player around with the controls as much as I would like and the option for a basic tutorial which you can try moves in would have been nice, especially considering that the default of R2 for a reversal has left me wanting to throw my controller out of the window because it is so unresponsive.

I would have loved to have included a review of the multiplayer aspect of the game however currently on the PS3 at least it doesn't work and doesn't connect...not the best of starts by THQ.

Is WWE 12 a step in the right direction for THQ...yes it is, it looks and plays better but has also gone backwards in a few areas which I hope can be patched to resolve.

Create A Superstar returns and has a ton more options and also allows you to edit an entrance video to include your created character...it does seem impressive.

Apparently you will be able to download other players story lines and then play through them however currently there is no time-frame that I've seen on when this is going to be fixed.

Pros

  • Impressive Roster
  • Visuals are a lot better
  • Story Creation and Player Creation much improved
Cons

  • Very poor reversal system
  • Broken multiplayer
  • Too many matches interfered with

 Score 7/10

While the roster and visuals are huge steps in the right direction, it is let down by broken multiplayer and stupid controls

Reading a few reviews, alot have focused on that reversal system. When reading the comments afterwards, there are always people moaning and saying that after a fair bit of play it was fluent and worked fine. I wonder if that's something you think could happen or maybe they just got used to the flawed system?

I just play the game on easy difficulty to avoid the constant use of reversals which make the game boring and frustrating. I just play to beat someone up, not have them reverse everything I do fifty times in a row! I wouldn't even try the MP because it would be a reversal fest

other things I would say:
lots of creation options though probably mainly for more hardcore fans.
the story mode thing is far more linear and scripted than WWE games from years ago and that's disappointing
the animations are generally fine but things get messy when there's 3 or more in the ring at once
