On Saturday (28th Jan) at about 10:30pm my PS3 died, the blu ray drive, after a couple of years of making crunchy noises, finally gave up. At 11:30 pm I ordered a new PS3 from Amazon, it arrived Monday 5:30pm. I know we expect a lot from retailers these days but that short a timeframe, given the time and day I ordered it, is pretty amazing isn't it?

Only real differences between the slim and the fat (apart from the obvious size) is the noise. My old fat sounded like I had a helicopter in the room the slim is almost silent. Big suprise was the fact that I can turn the PS3 on and control the XMB with the remote from the TV. I know this is probably all old news to everyone else but proper impressed me. Is there anything else it does that I don't know about?

Sounds cool I'm surprised your old PS3 was noisy though, because mine runs silently (its a fat 80gb model).

I remember reading that the PS3 Slim uses roughly one-third less electricity than the fat models, so you'll be saving a few pennies on your energy bill! Useful during the tough winter months, lol.

Mine was an 80gb fat, it was my 3rd, the previous 2 were replaced by Sony because of the noise. I guess some are good and some are bad. I knew mine was bad when I played without my headset and kept looking for the helicopter :-). The only thing that's broken on it is the drive so I've chucked it in the bedroom to use for tv catchup.
